Shifa International Denies ‘Dead Patient for Seven Days’ Allegation, Warns Media Over Misrepresentation

SIHL Rejects Misreporting, Cites Reputational Harm

Islamabad — Shifa International Hospitals Limited (SIHL) has strongly denied recent claims circulating on social media and echoed by some media outlets, alleging that the hospital kept a deceased patient for seven days. The hospital issued its rebuttal during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health Subcommittee, held Wednesday in Islamabad.

A hospital representative categorically dismissed the allegations as “baseless and misleading,” asserting that the issue was briefly mentioned in a previous subcommittee session on July 4, but was later “unnecessarily sensationalized” in sections of the media.

“The committee members themselves confirmed today that the matter was never meant to be presented in the manner it appeared in the press,” the SIHL spokesperson said. The hospital urged the parliamentary committee to recognize the reputational harm caused by unverified and exaggerated reporting.

SIHL reaffirmed that its operations and patient care strictly follow scientific protocols, ethical standards, and comply with both national regulations and international healthcare guidelines.

In a statement following the meeting, the hospital emphasized its commitment to compassionate, high-quality care and warned that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against those spreading defamatory or false information about the institution.

The hospital also urged journalists and the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information, stressing the importance of responsible reporting to avoid misinformation in matters involving public health.
