Sharma Hospitalized, World Cup Doubtful

India Opener Abhishek Sharma Down With Infection

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Indian cricket team opener Abhishek Sharma has been admitted to hospital due to a stomach infection, putting his participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup matches against Namibia, Pakistan, and other group-stage teams in doubt.

According to Indian media reports, Sharma began feeling unwell before the match against the United States but still decided to play despite his condition. However, his health reportedly deteriorated after the game, prompting his immediate transfer to a private hospital in New Delhi.

Doctors confirmed that he is suffering from a stomach infection and high fever. He has been put on intravenous drips, and several medical tests are being conducted to determine the exact nature and severity of the infection. Treatment is being administered accordingly.

Sharma also missed the team’s practice session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, further raising concerns about his fitness ahead of the crucial group-stage fixtures.

Reports suggest that it remains unclear whether he will be discharged from the hospital today. Due to this uncertainty, his availability for the upcoming match against Namibia appears doubtful.

In light of the situation, the Indian team management has included all-rounder Washington Sundar in the squad as a precautionary replacement to avoid any last-minute setbacks.

The team management has not yet issued an official statement regarding Sharma’s condition. Meanwhile, cricket fans are hoping for his speedy recovery ahead of the tournament’s important matches.
