Shane Watson Reflects on Memorable Experience Playing in Pakistan

SYDNEY: Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has expressed disappointment over India’s decision not to participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be hosted in Pakistan. Watson called India’s absence “unfortunate,” stressing the importance of India-Pakistan cricket encounters for global fans.

During the ICC Champions Trophy Sydney tour, Watson spoke about the unique atmosphere created by matches between India and Pakistan, likening the rivalry to the one between Australia and England. “These encounters are always a special occasion,” Watson noted, emphasizing their significance in international cricket.

Reflecting on his own experience, Watson recalled his time playing in Pakistan during the 2019 Pakistan Super League. “Having the opportunity to play in Pakistan was special for me. The passion of Pakistani cricket fans and the way they enjoy the game was remarkable,” he said.

Watson also highlighted the broader importance of Pakistan hosting the prestigious ICC event, pointing out that it offers local fans a rare chance to witness world-class cricket in their own country. “The Champions Trophy being hosted in Pakistan is significant for the entire nation. Fans will finally have the chance to see top-tier international stars in action, which will be a special moment for them,” he added.
