Shahzain Malik Elected Youngest President of Karachi Basketball Association; Yaqoob Qadry Appointed Secretary

The election process followed a rigorous scrutiny of basketball clubs across the city, ultimately finalizing 16 clubs with official voting rights.

Karachi– In a landmark development for the city’s basketball community, Shahzain Malik, a prominent businessman and youth sports promoter, has been elected as the youngest-ever President of the Karachi Basketball Association (KBA). The elections were conducted under the supervision of the Karachi Basketball Scrutiny Committee.

Joining him in leadership, seasoned basketball organizer and former FIBA referee Yaqoob Qadry has been elected as the Secretary of the association, bringing decades of experience to the new administration.

Muhammad Yaqoob, the senior-most member of the community, was appointed as Senior Vice President, while Haji Salim Qureshi was named Chairman of the association.

The newly elected office bearers of KBA include:

  • Vice Presidents: Azeem us Shaan, Zeyd Sheikh

  • Treasurer: Shiraz Alam

  • Associate Secretaries: Syed Adnan Ali, Ans Azher

Members elected to the Executive Committee are:

  • Umer Khawaja

  • Ans Azher

  • Ghulam Muhammad

  • Jamil Shaikh

In an effort to strengthen talent development and governance, the KBA also announced the formation of two specialized bodies:

  • 4-member Selection Committee:

    • Azeem us Shaan

    • Ghulam Muhammad

    • Zeyd Sheikh

    • Arhum Latif

  • 4-member Referees Board:

    • Amir Ghayaas

    • Amil Khan

    • Haroon Khan

    • Yousuf Khan

The election process followed a rigorous scrutiny of basketball clubs across the city, ultimately finalizing 16 clubs with official voting rights. The elections were conducted in a transparent manner under the observation of key stakeholders, including Ismail Shah (Sports Department, Government of Sindh), Ahmed Ali Rajpoot (Secretary, Sindh Olympic Association), and Syed Modoud Jaffery (Pakistan Basketball Federation).

The new leadership has pledged to revitalize basketball in Karachi by promoting grassroots development, infrastructure enhancement, and greater inclusivity in the sport.
