Shahbaz denounces corruption allegations, highlights development initiatives

LAHORE: Former Prime Minister and President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Shahbaz Sharif, has refuted allegations of corruption levied against him by the incumbent government, emphasizing the absence of any substantiated corruption charges against Nawaz Sharif. He stated that corruption remains prevalent in societies worldwide and has not been entirely eradicated.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Shahbaz Sharif asserted that the electorate will decide through ballots in elections, highlighting the significance of youth involvement in shaping future elections. He underscored the direct correlation between transparency and international reports on elections.
Shahbaz Sharif recalled Nawaz Sharif‘s tenure, highlighting significant infrastructure projects such as the construction of motorways, which led to unfounded corruption allegations against him. He pointed out that the motorway infrastructure has benefited millions of people, demonstrating the positive impact of development initiatives.
Furthermore, Shahbaz Sharif emphasized the significant reduction in corruption during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure, citing Pakistan’s improved ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index from 139 in 2013 to subsequent years. He also credited the previous government for introducing various development projects, including the initiation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and advancements in the energy sector.
Regarding the incumbent government, Shahbaz Sharif criticized it for allegedly perpetrating the worst forms of corruption and baseless accusations against him and his party members. He reiterated that corruption persists in societies globally and cannot be entirely eradicated.
Shahbaz Sharif also addressed Bilawal Bhutto, cautioning against soliciting votes through the distribution of money, which he termed as the worst form of electoral misconduct.
