Security Forces Launch Major Operation Against Militants in Bajaur, Displacing Over 40,000 Residents

The operation follows the failure of a peace jirga held between local elders and militant groups.

Bajaur— Security forces have initiated a large-scale operation targeting nearly 800 militants in Bajaur district, home to approximately 300,000 people. The offensive has led to the displacement of more than 40,000 local residents, according to official sources.

The operation follows the failure of a peace jirga held between local elders and militant groups. The jirga had demanded that militants vacate the area along with two other key conditions, but talks ultimately broke down.

Authorities report that around 300 militants are concentrated in two areas of Mamond tehsil, while over 350 militants are active in neighboring Khyber district. It is estimated that more than 80 percent of these militants are Afghan nationals.

Commissioner of Malakand Division, Abid Wazir, confirmed that arrangements have been made to accommodate displaced families. A total of 107 government buildings in Khar have been repurposed to shelter those affected, and a tent village is being established at the Khar Sports Complex to provide additional relief.

Security officials say the operation aims to restore peace and stability to the region and to clear militant strongholds that threaten local communities.
