Security Concerns Prompt Punjab Government to Impose Section 144
The Punjab government has swiftly enforced Section 144 in five districts of the province, citing heightened security concerns.
As per an official notification from the Home Department, the restriction will be effective for three days, starting from Saturday, October 12, until Monday, October 14.
The affected districts include Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu. During this period, all political gatherings, rallies, sit-ins, and protests are strictly banned to uphold law and order and protect public property in light of potential security risks.
This decision was taken following requests from local district administrations, who raised concerns about the vulnerability of public gatherings as potential targets for terrorist activities.
A formal notification has been issued by the Home Department to ensure full implementation of these emergency measures.
The government has urged the public to cooperate with authorities to maintain safety and prevent any incidents during this critical time.
Just last week, Section 144 was also enforced in Lahore and Sargodha, with additional deployment of Rangers in Lahore. The restriction in Lahore was in place from October 3 to 8, with Rangers stationed on October 5 to assist with security. Similarly, in Sargodha, Section 144 was imposed from October 4 to 6, prohibiting protests and demonstrations during that period.
