DG Khan School Roof Collapse Today Kills 4 Children, 20 Injured — Owner Arrested
Dera Ghazi Khan – (Web Desk) – A heartbreaking tragedy struck Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday morning. The roof of a private school classroom collapsed, killing four young students and injuring 20 others. The school roof collapse DG Khan today has shaken the entire city and sparked a major investigation.
The incident took place at The Little Scholars School, located on a road between V and W blocks in DG Khan. The roof caved in at 11:52 AM, trapping students inside the debris.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the alert. Workers pulled four children from the rubble, but sadly, they could not be saved.
Names of the Children Who Lost Their Lives
The four young victims have been identified as:
- Ghania Zohra, age 8
- Masoom Fatima, age 5
- Dua Aimen, age 6
- Muhammad Abdullah, age 6
These innocent children were simply sitting in their classroom when the roof gave way. Their loss has left families and the entire community in deep grief.
20 People Injured in the Collapse
Along with the four deaths, 20 people were injured in the incident. Among the injured are students, two teachers, and a labourer.
The injured include Ume Hani (7), Sher Ali (8), Noor Hareem (7), Shajiha (5), Adnan (6), Saba Murtaza (6), M. Arish (7), Hamema Jabbar (8), Maleeha Khan (7), Jariatul Zehra (6), Narmeen Fatima (6), and Badar Muhiuddin (7), among others.
Two teachers, Saima (26) and Sidra Rafiq (30), were also injured. A labourer named Sanaullah (28) and another person named Mumtaz (27) were also among those hurt.
All injured persons were taken to Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Authorities say the cause of the collapse was ongoing construction work on the upper portion of the building. Heavy construction material was being stored on the school’s roof. This extra weight overburdened the structure, causing it to give way.
Rescue 1122 DEO Engineer Ahmad Kamal confirmed this during his official statement.
Following the tragedy, the school owner was arrested. A case has been registered against him in connection with the incident.
DG Khan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid confirmed the arrest. He also raised a serious concern — 780 students were enrolled in a building that was only five to six marlas in size. An investigation is now underway to find out how such a large number of children were crammed into such a small space.
Officials Who Issued Fitness Certificate Also Under Probe
The deputy commissioner also confirmed that government officials who issued the building’s fitness certificate are now under investigation. This raises big questions about how the school passed safety checks in the first place.
Khalid made it clear — everyone responsible will be brought to justice.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took immediate notice of the tragedy. She has called for a full report on the incident.
Senior officials also arrived at the scene, including:
- DG Khan Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry
- Regional Police Officer (RPO) Azhar Akram
- District Police Officer (DPO) Sadiq Baloch
They personally monitored the rescue operation and reviewed the situation on ground.
The local government declared a medical emergency at all government hospitals in DG Khan. This was done to make sure the injured children and other victims receive fast and proper treatment without any delays.
A Wake-Up Call for School Safety in Pakistan
The school roof collapse DG Khan today is not just a local tragedy. It is a warning sign for the entire country. Many private schools in Pakistan operate in unsafe buildings. Fitness certificates are often issued without proper checks.
Four children went to school that morning and never came home. That must never happen again.
Authorities must make school building safety a top priority — not just in DG Khan, but across all of Pakistan.
