ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court today, a 7-member larger bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, approved lawyer Hamid Khan’s plea to represent the Lahore High Court Bar in the ongoing review of civilian trials in military courts. This decision, passed by a 5-2 majority, marks a pivotal moment in the legal proceedings surrounding these contentious trials.

During the hearing, various concerns were raised regarding the treatment of the accused, with lawyers highlighting alleged restrictions on family visits and poor conditions for detainees. Justice Jamal Mandukhel questioned these claims, emphasizing the importance of factual accuracy in court proceedings.

Hafizullah Niazi, speaking passionately on behalf of his son, appealed to the court citing constitutional rights and the prolonged detention of his son without trial. The courtroom atmosphere intensified as legal arguments unfolded, culminating in a decision to adjourn proceedings until July 11.

The Attorney General also weighed in, addressing procedural questions raised by the bench regarding the scope and process of appeals within the court system. Discussions centered on the need for clear rules governing intra-court appeals, highlighting gaps in current legal frameworks.

Amidst these deliberations, the courtroom dynamics reflected a keen focus on upholding judicial integrity while navigating complex legal terrain. The decision to allow live broadcasting from Court Room One underscored transparency efforts amidst public interest in these high-profile cases.
