Saudi Arabia Cracks Down on Illegal Migrants, Records 18,877 Violations

Authorities also detained 1,312 people for attempting to illegally enter the Kingdom.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded 18,877 violations of residency, labor, and border security laws within a single week, while 13,241 illegal migrants were deported, according to Arab media reports.

Between December 18 and 24, a total of 11,991 individuals were arrested for violating residency laws, 3,808 for attempting illegal border crossings, and 3,078 for breaching labor regulations.

Authorities also detained 1,312 people for attempting to illegally enter the Kingdom. Among them, 55 percent were Ethiopian nationals, 44 percent were Yemeni, and one percent belonged to other nationalities.

Additionally, 46 individuals were arrested while trying to cross the border into neighboring countries illegally. Fourteen people were taken into custody for facilitating illegal travel, accommodation, employment, or providing shelter to undocumented migrants. During the same period, 13,241 illegal migrants were repatriated to their home countries.

Saudi authorities reiterated that providing travel, housing, or employment assistance to illegal migrants is a criminal offense under Saudi law and carries strict penalties.
