Saudi Arabia and Ukraine officials sign a new air defence deal
Ukraine Shares Battle-Tested Drone Defence Skills With Saudi Arabia as Both Nations Face the Same Iranian Threat
Ukraine and Saudi Arabia – (Web Desk) – Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have struck a new defence deal during President Zelensky’s recent visit to the kingdom. The agreement focuses on helping Saudi Arabia strengthen its defences against Iranian drone attacks — the very same type of drones that Russia has been using to target Ukrainian cities for years.
Two senior officials, who preferred to stay unnamed, shared the news with AFP. According to them, Ukraine will essentially help Saudi Arabia build up and improve its entire air defence system — something the Gulf nation currently lacks in key areas.
Ukraine has become remarkably skilled at shooting down drones on a tight budget, using low-cost interceptors, electronic jamming devices, and anti-aircraft guns to protect its cities night after night. It now considers itself a world leader in anti-drone defence — and others seem to agree.
The deal goes beyond just sharing equipment. It covers building a complete defence system, blending Ukrainian technology with artificial intelligence, data analysis, and hands-on experience in countering Shahed-style drones.
Zelensky called it “an important arrangement” on social media, adding that both countries stand to benefit — Ukraine is interested in Saudi Arabia’s more advanced, high-end air defence missiles in return.
Ukraine has also had experts on the ground in Saudi Arabia since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, which triggered a wave of retaliatory drone and missile attacks.
