ICC Lauds Saim Ayub for Key Role in Pakistan's Historic ODI Series Wins

DUBAI: Pakistani batter Saim Ayub has been shortlisted for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. The 22-year-old has been a standout performer, especially in One Day Internationals, scoring 515 runs in nine matches at an average of 64.37, including three centuries. Two of these centuries came against South Africa, helping Pakistan achieve a whitewash in their three-match ODI series.

The ICC praised Ayub for his consistency across all three formats, with his best performances coming in ODIs. He played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s successful tours of Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, leading the team to several away series victories. His contribution in Australia was particularly significant, helping Pakistan secure their first ODI series win there in 22 years.

In addition to his batting prowess, Ayub has also impressed with the ball, taking five wickets at an economy rate of 4.63. His crucial dismissal of Aiden Markram in a memorable win against South Africa was highlighted by the ICC.

Ayub faces competition for the award from Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka), Shamar Joseph (West Indies), and Gus Atkinson (England).

The ICC also revealed the shortlist for the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, which includes Shreyanka Patil (India), Saskia Horley (Scotland), Annerie Dercksen (South Africa), and Freya Sargent (Ireland).
