SAAF Cross Country Championships 2024 Postponed Due to Toxic Smog

Lahore-(Sports Reporter)-The South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) has postponed its Cross Country Athletics Championships 2024, initially set for November 24 in Islamabad, due to severe smog conditions in central Punjab.

The decision was made following government deliberations and consultations with SAAF leadership, as the smog poses serious health risks. Strict measures, including the closure of educational institutions and restricted business hours, have been enforced across affected areas.

Two participating teams were scheduled to travel from Lahore to Islamabad by road, but road closures and airspace restrictions during the travel period have hampered preparations.

The unrelenting smog and its potential health impact on athletes necessitated the postponement.

The championships are expected to be rescheduled in a couple of months. New dates will be announced soon, ensuring a safer environment for all participants.
