Reza Amiri Moghadam links talks progress to US behavior change

Iran envoy says talks depend on US policy shift and respect

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Reza Amiri Moghadam has stated that any progress in ongoing diplomatic efforts depends on a shift in the United States’ approach.

In an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency, the envoy emphasized that Iran has clearly outlined its stance and expectations, adding that meaningful progress will only be possible if Washington demonstrates seriousness by changing its conduct. He reiterated that Iran will not compromise on its national interests or defense.

The ambassador revealed that a fresh proposal aimed at ending the conflict has been conveyed to the United States through Pakistan, which continues to play a central mediating role. He appreciated Islamabad’s efforts, describing them as important and constructive in the current process.

He further clarified that Pakistan remains the designated mediator, with no decision taken to alter this arrangement. According to him, the international community recognizes Iran’s position as clear and rational, while US policies are seen as inconsistent.

Reza Amiri Moghadam stressed that Iran remains committed to diplomacy, but underscored that progress hinges on Washington abandoning what he termed aggressive policies and acknowledging Iran’s rights.

He also highlighted growing ties between Iran and Pakistan, noting that cooperation in political, economic, and trade sectors continues to expand. Border crossings including Mirjaveh border crossing, Taftan border crossing, and Gabd-e Ramdan crossing were described as key routes facilitating bilateral trade.
