Multan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The Rehman Baba Express derailment, Multan police confirmed, killed at least six people and injured 30 others early Tuesday. All 14 coaches of the train left the track near Sher Shah Bridge.
The accident happened at around 5:15am, according to a passenger. The train runs on the long route between Karachi and Peshawar, and it was on that journey at the time.
Police and rescue officials said teams reached the site and started work quickly. They said 13 coaches had been cleared, while work was still going on in the last coach.
The injured were taken to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for treatment. More details about their condition were still awaited.
A passenger told reporters that workers had repaired the nuts and bolts of coach number nine near Rohri before the accident. This claim has not been confirmed, and officials have not yet named a cause.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and expressed concern for the injured passengers. He told the authorities to speed up the rescue work and make sure the injured get the best possible medical care without delay.
Pakistan Railways and other authorities are expected to share more details as the rescue work goes on.
This is not the first serious railway accident in the country. In August 2023, the Hazara Express derailed near Nawabshah in Sindh. At least 30 people were killed and more than 100 were injured. That accident raised fresh concerns about railway safety and maintenance.
For now, the focus remains on helping the injured and finishing the rescue work. This story will be updated when officials share more information.
