RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s debutant spinner Asif Afridi made a stunning start to his Test career by taking five wickets in the ongoing Rawalpindi Test against South Africa, helping Pakistan gain a strong position in the match.
South Africa resumed their innings on day three at 185 for 4. Asif Afridi struck early, taking his first wicket on just the fourth ball of the day when Kyle Verreynne was caught by Mohammad Rizwan. He then dismissed Tristan Stubbs for 76 and Simon Harmer for just 2 runs.
With this performance, Asif Afridi became the second left-arm spinner from Pakistan to take five wickets on debut in Test cricket.
South Africa, in their first innings, have scored 210 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, still trailing by 123 runs.

Earlier, Pakistan posted 333 runs in their first innings. In reply, South Africa lost Ryan Rickelton early for 14 runs to Shaheen Afridi at the score of 22. Tony de Zorzi scored 55, captain Aiden Markram made 32, and Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a duck.
Asif Afridi’s debut performance has been a major highlight of the match, putting Pakistan in a commanding position.
