Rashid Latif Calls for Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Exclusion Ahead of Champions Trophy
Latif Criticizes Lack of Accountability for Senior Players

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket captain, Rashid Latif, has demanded the exclusion of fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi from the national squad after Pakistan’s defeat to New Zealand in the opening match of the tri-series. Latif expressed his concerns about the team’s performance, especially with the Champions Trophy just around the corner.
In an interview with a private television channel, Latif criticized both Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah for their underwhelming performances, emphasizing that they have failed to provide match-winning contributions. He highlighted that Shaheen, in particular, has not been able to regain his earlier form for a while. Despite Naseem’s experience, Latif pointed out that he has had minimal impact on recent games.
Latif also mentioned the imbalance in accountability, noting that senior players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah are not held responsible for their poor performances, while other players like Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha face severe criticism.

With the Champions Trophy fast approaching, Latif stressed that the success of the team heavily relies on senior players stepping up. He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to focus on nurturing young fast bowlers while ensuring accountability for senior players.
Latif’s call for change comes at a critical juncture as Pakistan prepares for the prestigious tournament, raising concerns about the team’s readiness and the need for a strategy overhaul.
