Punjab University Professor Wins Major HEC Grant

The project led by Dr Muzzammel has earned the largest research grant awarded to any PU faculty member for 2025

LAHORE: Punjab University has secured a significant academic milestone after the Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved a research proposal led by Dr Hafiz Muzzammel Rehman, Assistant Professor at the School of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, under the National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU).

According to university officials, the HEC received thousands of submissions from both public and private sector universities nationwide. Only a select number passed the rigorous review, and out of Punjab University’s accepted proposals, Dr Muzzammel is the Principal Investigator on one project and a Collaborator on another.

The project led by Dr Muzzammel has earned the largest research grant awarded to any PU faculty member for 2025, marking a notable achievement for the university’s research portfolio.

University representatives described the approval as proof of PU’s rising research credentials and the growing output of the School of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, which has emerged as a leading contributor in life sciences research.
