Punjab Tightens School Exam Monitoring, Introduces Marking SOPs
Punjab Education Department Issues New SOPs For Exam Paper Marking
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Punjab School Education Department has decided to strengthen oversight of the school examination system across Punjab to ensure fairness and transparency.
According to officials, the department has issued new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the marking of annual examination papers. The measures aim to improve the credibility of assessment practices in both government and outsourced schools.
Under the new framework, around 25 percent of exam papers from across the province will be validated through a separate review process as part of a school-based assessment system.

School heads have been directed to maintain proper records of assessment results. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against principals or administrators found responsible for incorrect marking or exaggerating students’ results.
The department also stated that institutions submitting fabricated or misleading results would face disciplinary measures, while schools providing accurate and transparent assessments would be acknowledged and encouraged.
Officials further stressed that the examination process must remain confidential and transparent to maintain trust in the system.
The marking standards for eighth-grade examination papers will be independently reviewed by the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority.
Additionally, the performance of senior education officials — including Directors of Public Instruction, directors, and district chief executive officers — will also be evaluated based on how effectively they ensure compliance with the assessment standards.
