Punjab Imposes Section 144 in Lahore Amid Security Concerns
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Lahore, banning protests and public demonstrations for six days, from October 3 to October 8, due to security concerns.
A notification issued by the provincial authorities stated that the ban applies to all types of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, and protests in Lahore during this period. The measure is intended to maintain public peace and safeguard lives and property, as such events could be targeted by terrorists due to existing security threats.
The decision to enforce Section 144 was made based on recommendations from the district administration, and a public awareness campaign was initiated to inform citizens about the restrictions.
In addition to Lahore, Section 144 has also been imposed in other districts, including Mianwali, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Chiniot. In Mianwali, the ban will remain effective from October 1 to October 7, while in the other districts, it will be enforced for two days within a five-day period.
To ensure safety in Mianwali, two companies of Rangers have been deployed from October 1 to October 3. The notification confirmed that these restrictions apply to all forms of political gatherings and related activities.
