LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a series of ambitious targets aimed at transforming the province’s agriculture, energy, and industrial sectors. In a key decision, she directed the provision of 10,000 tractors at subsidised rates to farmers by February 28, with an additional 2,000 super seeders to be distributed by March.
During a high-level performance review meeting, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, officials reviewed the progress of various projects initiated by the chief minister. The meeting focused on advancements in agriculture, energy, and industry over the past six months.
Among the key announcements, the government committed to expediting the distribution of free solar energy to residents of Punjab. Plans to transition government buildings to solar energy and conclude the renewable energy project by June were also discussed. An additional Rs6 billion has been allocated to support solar energy initiatives across the province.
To further support agriculture, a comprehensive programme for the revival and enhancement of citrus fruit production, particularly oranges and kinnows, was unveiled. The government also finalised plans to establish exemplary agricultural markets in Punjab, aiming to boost production and increase exports.
In a significant move, a waste-to-energy fund will be established by March, and steps are being taken to transition several key departments, including the Punjab Assembly and the Institute of Cardiology, to solar energy.
The “Garments Cities” project, set to transform the textile sector, is also on track for completion by March.
CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her vision for the future, stating, “Modern technology-led development in agriculture, energy, and industry is my agenda. The dream of an agricultural and industrial revolution in Punjab is rapidly becoming a reality.”

Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb added that CM Maryam’s initiatives are not only driving prosperity in Punjab but also contributing to the overall progress of the country. “The well-being of farmers is the foundation of progress for both Punjab and the nation,” she said.
