FIA Registers Case Against Shahzad in Social Media Smear Campaign

LAHORE: A suspect, Bilal Malik, has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing for allegedly orchestrating an online smear campaign targeting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the President of the United Arab Emirates. Malik was apprehended in Lahore, with the FIA securing a three-day physical remand from a local magistrate’s court. The agency revealed that further investigations are underway to uncover the full scope of the suspect’s activities and to identify others involved in similar campaigns.

In addition to Malik’s case, the FIA’s Faisalabad division has registered a separate case against another individual, Shahzad, for launching a social media attack against the Punjab CM. A joint investigation team has been formed, comprising FIA officials from multiple regions, tasked with tracking down and arresting others connected to the smear campaign.
