Punjab Govt Launches ‘Karobar Card’ Loan Scheme to Support Small Businesses

LAHORE: The Punjab Government has introduced a new initiative, the ‘Karobar Card’ loan scheme, designed to foster the growth of small businesses across the province. The announcement was made during a meeting in Lahore on Saturday, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The ‘Karobar Card’ Scheme will provide loans ranging from Rs 100,000 to Rs 1 million to eligible small business owners, helping them access much-needed financial support for expansion and operations. This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and promote business growth.

In addition to the ‘Karobar Card’, the government has unveiled the ‘Chief Minister Aasan Karobar Financing Scheme’, which targets medium-sized businesses. This scheme offers loans up to Rs 30 million, with a repayment period of five years, aiming to further bolster Punjab’s industrial and business sectors.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that these initiatives are a key part of the government’s strategy to provide economic relief and employment opportunities for the people of Punjab. “We are committed to fostering a business-friendly environment in the province, ensuring that both small and medium enterprises have the financial support needed to thrive,” she said.

The announcement of the loan schemes is part of a wider set of initiatives launched by the Punjab government in recent days. These include the Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme, which will provide 100,000 solar systems to electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month. The solar panels will be distributed free of charge, with installation expected to alleviate the burden of electricity costs for low-income families and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.

Another key initiative is the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme, which will offer 30,000 scholarships to students, particularly those from female and Southern Punjab communities, to further their education at private and public universities. In addition, 90,000 laptops will be distributed under the Chief Minister’s Laptop and Merit Scholarship Program, aimed at top-performing students across various fields, including medicine, agriculture, and minority communities.

The government also introduced the Dialysis Card Scheme, allocating Rs 1 million for each patient’s treatment to improve healthcare accessibility in the province.
