Punjab Awards Laptop Scheme Contract Without Open Tender

The total cost of the laptop scheme has reportedly increased from Rs10 billion to Rs27 billion.

LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has once again awarded a major contract under its laptop scheme to the same company.

Sources in the Higher Education Department said that this time laptops will be purchased through direct contracting instead of an open tender process. The contract has been given to National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).

Under the new phase of the scheme, NRTC will supply 70,000 laptops during the current financial year. Officials said amendments in procurement rules have allowed direct contracts.

The total cost of the laptop scheme has reportedly increased from Rs10 billion to Rs27 billion.

Sources added that if NRTC’s performance meets expectations, the company may receive additional orders in the future.
