Punjab Announces Public Holidays For Ashura Observance

Security Arrangements Finalized Ahead Of Muharram Observances

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) has announced public holidays across Punjab on June 25 and 26, corresponding to 9 and 10 Muharram 1448 AH, to facilitate the observance of Ashura.

According to an official notification issued on Monday, the holidays will be observed on Thursday and Friday for government offices operating under both five-day and six-day workweek schedules.

The decision was taken to enable citizens to participate in religious gatherings, mourning processions, and other events held during Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

The provincial government has directed authorities to ensure wide dissemination of the announcement through print, electronic, and digital media platforms to keep the public informed.

The notification follows a similar declaration by the federal government, which had earlier announced public holidays nationwide on June 25 and 26 in connection with the observance of Ashura.

As a result, provincial and federal government offices, educational institutions, and various public sector departments will remain closed on both days. Meanwhile, security and administrative agencies are finalizing arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of Muharram-related events across the province.

Officials have emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the religious observances, with special security measures expected to be implemented in major cities and sensitive areas throughout Punjab.
