The federal government has announced a public holiday on November 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal.
A formal notification has been issued confirming the holiday.
November 9 marks the birth of Allama Iqbal, born in Sialkot in 1877, who became an influential figure in the subcontinent’s history, particularly in the Pakistan movement.
Iqbal, known for his modern Sufi poetry, inspired a sense of revolution and nationalism through his writings. His works have been translated into numerous languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and English, earning him global recognition as a philosopher.
Although Iqbal passed away on April 21, 1938, before Pakistan’s independence, his legacy continues to resonate as a key figure in the creation of the nation.
