PTI’s Omar Ayub notified leader of opposition in National Assembly

Ayub’s name was proposed by the majority of the opposition.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart Omar Ayub has been notified as leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, the lower house secretariat said in a statement on Tuesday.

NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has declared Ayub as the opposition leader after completing the due process to appoint the opposition leader.

The NA speaker ratified Ayub’s request, after the latter called on the former.

Opposition members Gohar Ali Khan and Malik Amir Dogar were also present in the meeting which exchanged views on the opposition leader’s nomination.

The NA secretariat in a tweet said, “The speaker of the National Assembly declares Omar Ayub the Leader of the Opposition after the completion of the scrutiny process under Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the National Assembly.”

Ayub’s name was proposed by the majority of the opposition.

“The time for submission of papers for the nomination of the Leader of the Opposition was April 1, 2024, till 6 pm. No other candidate’s papers have been received by the stipulated time,” the NA said.

The PTI-Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) alliance had nominated Ayub on March 10 for the leader of the opposition. Malik Amir Dogar, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Ali Muhammad Khan, Riaz Fatiana, Dr. Nisar Jat and others had arrived to submit the plea to the speaker’s office. The plea carried signatures of 92 SIC lawmakers.

Election Commission Suspends Notification of Speaker Balochistan Assembly’s Success

The Election Commission has suspended the notification of success for Captain (Retired) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly.

According to private TV channels, the Election Commission has also ordered re-polling at 12 polling stations of PB-51 Chaman.

The Election Commission made this decision in response to the requests filed by Abbasin Achakzai of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and Asghar Achakzai of the Awami National Party (ANP).

It is noteworthy that on February 29, Captain (Retired) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai and Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola took their oaths of office as the newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly.

The session of the Balochistan Assembly was chaired by Zamarak Khan Achakzai, where the newly elected Speaker took the oath. Following the oath-taking, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai also administered the oath to the newly elected Deputy Speaker, Ghazala Gola.

Captain (Retired) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, while Ghazala Gola of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker.
