PTI Rejects Allegations of Political Deal Over Delay in £190 Million Case Verdict

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar on Monday dismissed suggestions that the postponement of the verdict in the £190 million settlement case involving party leader Imran Khan was the result of a political deal. The delay, initially scheduled for today, has been moved to January 17, 2025.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar clarified that the decision to defer the verdict was made independently by the judge, without any external influence. “We came prepared for the verdict today, but the judge decided to delay it on his own terms. This is not the result of any deal,” Gohar stated, expressing disappointment with the trial court’s handling of the case.

PTI leaders have strongly criticized the judiciary’s actions, with Gohar emphasizing that the delay further exemplifies the “unjust” treatment faced by the party and its leadership. “Injustice has been done to us, and the trial court’s attitude is unfair,” he added, reiterating the party’s unwavering support for Imran Khan despite ongoing legal battles.

Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, was described by his lawyer as a champion for justice and constitutional rights. “Imran Khan is in jail for the sake of justice and the constitution; he is undeterred by personal consequences,” Gohar stated.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja also addressed the media, denying any speculations about a political deal. Raja stressed that the negotiations scheduled for January 15 were aimed solely at protecting the supremacy of democracy and justice, not seeking special privileges. “There is no negotiation for a deal; we are not seeking any special advantages,” he affirmed, emphasizing the party’s commitment to democratic principles.

Raja further made it clear that PTI leadership would not compromise on its stance, insisting on seeking justice through legal channels, particularly with the upcoming Supreme Court hearing.

Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, also spoke outside the prison, expressing frustration over the delay. “We could not meet Imran Khan today, despite reaching on time,” she said, adding that her brother remained firm in his desire for a prompt verdict. She dismissed claims of external pressure, stating that once the verdict is announced, they plan to take the £190 million case to the High Court.
