Africa-1 Cable System to Boost Connectivity Across Key Regions

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully landed the ultra-high capacity Africa-1 submarine cable at Sea View Beach, Karachi, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital infrastructure development.

In an official press release, PTCL confirmed that this achievement follows its agreement to join the Africa-1 cable system consortium. The consortium includes major telecommunications companies such as Mobily (Saudi Arabia), UAE’s etisalat (e&), G42 (UAE), Telecom Egypt, Zain Oman International (ZOI), Algerie Telecom, TeleYemen, and other global service providers.

Spanning 10,000 kilometers, the Africa-1 cable system employs cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance connectivity between various regions. The system will link Pakistan with several key countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya, and Djibouti, creating an efficient and high-speed digital network.

The Africa-1 cable will be terminated at the Africa-1 Cable station at PTCL Exchange Misrishah, Phase-VI, DHA Karachi, further solidifying Pakistan’s position as a vital hub in the global digital network.

The cable system is expected to be fully operational by the beginning of 2026, marking a major leap for Pakistan’s telecom industry and its role in the international digital ecosystem.
