Islamabad(Staff Reporter);PTA Cracks Down on Illegal SIM Issuance in Five Cities, The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a crackdown on the illegal issuance of SIM cards in five cities.
Zonal offices in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Peshawar conducted raids on Telenor, Jazz, Ufone, and Zong franchises in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Kot Momin, Kohat, and Hangu.
According to the PTA, these franchises were involved in the illegal issuance of SIM cards, which were being used for criminal activities, fraud, and identity theft. The operations were carried out with the assistance of the FIA.
PTA seeks bids for advanced firewalls to control internet in Pakistan
The PTA reported that the FIA seized 4 laptops, 1 PC, 12 biometric verification devices, active SIM cards, mobile phones, hard drives, photocopies, original ID cards, and soft copies of Afghan passports and POR cards.
Fifteen individuals working at the franchises were arrested on the spot, and FIRs have been registered by the FIA. Complaints had been lodged with the FIA based on information regarding illegal SIM issuance
