PSQCA cracks down on unlicensed products before Ramadan

Crackdown launched to ensure safe Ramadan food supplies

Karachi: (Web Desk) – In view of the holy month of Ramadan, the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority has intensified market inspections across the country to ensure the availability of safe and quality products for consumers while taking action against illegal brands.

Under a special campaign aimed at protecting public health, the Conformity Assessment team in Karachi carried out inspections at major retail outlets located on University Road. The inspection included prominent supermarkets such as Chase Plus, Imtiaz Super Market and Bin Mahfouz.

During the inspection, officials discovered several food and household products being sold without the mandatory Certification Mark (CM) license issued by PSQCA. The inspection team immediately took legal action, removing the unlicensed products from store shelves and seizing them under the PSQCA Act VI 1996.

Authorities also issued formal legal notices to the supermarkets, directing them to strictly comply with national quality standards. Among the confiscated items were products commonly used during Ramadan, including cooking oil, banaspati ghee and spices.

Syeda Zia Batool emphasized that ensuring consumer safety remains the authority’s top priority. She warned that strict action would continue against businesses selling substandard or uncertified products.

The PSQCA has also urged citizens to check for the Pakistan Standard (PS) mark on product packaging before purchasing items. Consumers have been advised to buy only approved products and report any shop selling essential goods without the PS mark to the authority.

Officials added that the crackdown will be expanded further across the city to maintain quality standards and ensure citizens have access to safe food products during Ramadan.
