Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Urges Swift Implementation of Aviation Reforms Nationwide
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for timely completion of this year's safety audit in the aviation sector, as part of a broader effort to reform the industry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a review meeting to assess ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s aviation sector, focusing on improving services for passengers, tourists, and overseas Pakistanis at airports nationwide.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to ensure that additional service counters are functional during peak hours to minimize waiting times. He also emphasized the timely completion of this year’s aviation safety audit, underscoring his administration’s commitment to maintaining high safety and service standards.
PM Shehbaz reiterated that the Aviation Act 2023, passed during the previous government, forms the foundation for current aviation sector reforms. He directed that all policy actions and reforms outlined in the Act be fully implemented to realize the sector’s desired improvements.
The meeting placed special attention on the development of Skardu International Airport, with the Prime Minister insisting on top-tier facilities for passengers at the site.

Officials provided a detailed update on the progress of aviation reforms, reporting that significant changes are being implemented in line with the Aviation Act. The meeting also highlighted that third-party validation is being conducted for all projects and initiatives.
Additionally, it was disclosed that a feasibility study for expanding Skardu Airport would begin shortly. The meeting was also informed that expressions of interest have been received for installing automated border control systems at airports, a move aimed at enhancing and securing passenger processing.
