Election Commission Finalizes Key Plans for Azad Kashmir Elections 2026

MUZAFARABAD: (Web Desk) – A high-level meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal to review preparations for the Azad Kashmir General Elections 2026. Key decisions were made in consultation with political parties to ensure the polls are conducted in a transparent, fair, and timely manner.

During the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner announced that the election schedule will be issued in May. It was also decided that the elections will be held on time, with support from the Pakistan Army to ensure smooth and secure polling.

Participants discussed several proposals aimed at strengthening the electoral process. These included timely preparation of voter lists, improving facilities at polling stations, and modernizing the overall election system to enhance efficiency and transparency.

Election Commission member Syed Nazir Gilani briefed the meeting on technological advancements, stating that the electoral roll has now been digitally linked with the NADRA database. Under this system, citizens turning 18 will be automatically added to voter lists, while any updates to identity card information will also be reflected in real time.

These steps are expected to streamline the voting process and improve accuracy, marking a significant move toward more transparent and modern elections in Azad Kashmir.
