PPMA Denies Increase in Essential Medicine Prices

PPMA Rejects Reports of Drug Shortages and Price Hikes

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association has clarified that there has been no increase in the prices of essential and life-saving medicines, including insulin, dismissing concerns circulating about price hikes and shortages.

In an official statement, the association assured that the supply of major medicines remains stable across the country. It emphasized that life-saving drugs are still under strict government price control and have not seen any recent increases, despite rising production costs such as fuel prices and imported raw materials.

According to PPMA, medicines for critical conditions—including antibiotics, cardiac treatments, blood pressure drugs, and diabetes care—are readily available nationwide without disruption. Vaccine distribution is also continuing smoothly, while pharmaceutical companies currently hold sufficient stocks of both raw materials and finished products.

The association highlighted that nearly 90% of medicines used in Pakistan are produced locally, helping maintain consistent supply even amid economic pressures. However, it acknowledged that shortages of some advanced treatments are linked to delays in official price notifications. These include certain cancer therapies, vaccines, and immunoglobulins, whose availability depends on timely approval of prices by authorities.

PPMA also urged media organizations to avoid spreading unverified reports about medicine shortages or price increases, stressing the importance of accurate information for public confidence.
