The resolution, moved by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, stated: “The National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan reposes its full confidence in the leadership of Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

After securing the trust vote, the prime minister expressed gratitude to the lawmakers who voted for him. He also went up to the seat of Opposition Leader Raja Riaz of the PTI to thank him.

A total of 180 Members of the National Assembly voted in favour of the trust vote, as opposed to 174 when Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the prime minister last year.

PM’s address at luncheon for MPs

While adopting a categorical stance on the date of elections during an address to the parliamentarians at a luncheon, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Thursday that elections in the country would take place on the same day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The prime minister placed the overall situation of the country before the parliamentarians, stating that the Parliament was supreme and its decision would have to be accepted.

“The government will ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Parliament on every issue. No matter what anyone does, there will be no compromise on the supremacy of the Parliament,” he stressed.

Earlier,

Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb Thursday proved quite ill-informed when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took vote of confidence in the National Assembly.

Earlier, reports cited sources as saying the premier is likely to take a big decision to overcome the current crisis and he asked allies to ensure the appearance of their lawmakers in the federal capital on April 27.

The reports come after the parliament rejected a bill related to election funding. A few days ago, the NA rejected the demand to disburse Rs21 billion in funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the Punjab polls.

The move came when the Supreme Court questioned Prime Minister’s inability to get passed polls funds bill from the National Assembly.

However, Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had rubbished the reports about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to take a vote of confidence.

“The prime minister did not decide to take a vote of confidence, she clarified in a tweet.

There is no such consultation and there is no need for it, the information minister said, adding that the prime minister got the vote of the leader of the National Assembly on April 11, 2022.

The media should not air the news about Prime Minister without verification, tweeted the minister.

Meanwhile,

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhary responded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vote of confidence from National Assembly, saying that Mr Sharif had only secured the support of 160 members of the assembly instead of the required 172.

In a message posted on Twitter, Mr Chaudhary stated that Mr Sharif had lost the trust of the majority of the members, adding that the votes of 20 members of the assembly who belong to PTI cannot be counted in favor of the prime minister.
