Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Talks with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor on Bilateral Relations and Flood Impact
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by phone with Professor Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government. During the call, PM Sharif extended his congratulations to Professor Yunus on his new role and expressed his condolences for the recent devastating floods in Bangladesh.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of close collaboration to advance the progress and prosperity of both nations. They emphasized that increased regional cooperation could significantly improve the lives of people in South Asia.
The Prime Minister praised Professor Yunus for his contributions to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. PM Sharif expressed a desire to enhance commercial ties, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people interactions between the two countries.
In a separate letter, PM Sharif conveyed his deep sorrow over the catastrophic floods in Bangladesh. He assured Professor Yunus that Pakistan stands ready to assist Bangladesh in any way possible during this challenging time. The Prime Minister expressed solidarity with the Bangladeshi people and commended their resilience, expressing confidence that the nation will overcome these difficulties under Yunus’s leadership.

Bangladesh Political Crisis: Army Chief Announces Interim Government Formation
On August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country amidst escalating violence. The Army Chief, Wakar uz Zaman, announced that the military would oversee the formation of an interim government and engage with political parties to address the crisis.
Army Chief Zaman assured the public of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging an end to violence and promising to address public demands. He emphasized the need for cooperation to resolve the situation effectively.
Sheikh Hasina and her sister have relocated from the official residence, Ganabhaban, to a safer location. The Prime Minister had intended to deliver a speech but was unable to do so due to the ongoing unrest.
