ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s firm commitment to eliminating terrorism from Pakistan, emphasizing that the nation has already made great sacrifices in this fight. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the seventh Maritime Security Workshop at Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore on Friday, PM Shehbaz stressed the devastating toll that terrorism has taken on the country.

“Pakistan has paid a heavy price in the fight against terrorism,” the Prime Minister stated, noting that over 80,000 lives have been lost, and the economy has endured billions of dollars in damages due to the ongoing conflict. He underscored the challenges faced by the country in dealing with terrorism, stating that despite efforts to eradicate the menace during the 2013-2018 tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, terrorism has resurfaced in the country.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the dedication and sacrifices made by the officers and soldiers of the armed forces in the fight for national security. “The sacrifices of our armed forces will not go in vain,” he stated, acknowledging the crucial role of military personnel in safeguarding the nation.

Focusing on the role of the Pakistan Navy, PM Shehbaz highlighted the force’s capabilities and its importance in protecting the country’s maritime security. He commended the Pakistan Navy for its commitment and capacity to address a wide range of threats, asserting that the Navy is a key component in securing Pakistan’s borders and maritime interests.

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz emphasized the significance of the blue economy for Pakistan’s development and progress. He highlighted that the utilization of marine resources is vital for the country’s economic growth. The Prime Minister also spoke about the ongoing support from China in enhancing Pakistan’s maritime capabilities, with a particular focus on the development of Gwadar Port.
