PM Shehbaz Orders Cut in Electricity Prices, Focus on Solar Power
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed for a further reduction in electricity prices for the public and emphasized accelerating the implementation of future power generation projects. In a review meeting on power generation and transmission, held on Friday, the prime minister also ordered the immediate closure of outdated power plants that consume excessive fuel while generating limited electricity.
PM Shehbaz underscored the importance of prioritizing low-cost, sustainable power projects and utilizing local resources in the future. He also highlighted the progress of ongoing hydropower projects, stressing that such initiatives would provide consumers with environmentally friendly and affordable electricity.
“Globally, electricity is being generated using environmentally friendly, low-cost solar energy,” the prime minister noted, adding that Pakistan is fortunate to have vast potential for solar power. He emphasized that the country should shift its current power capacity toward solar energy for a more sustainable and affordable energy future.
In a separate development, PM Shehbaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif held a meeting at Jati Umra, where they discussed national security and political matters. Both leaders agreed to take strict action against those who harm national unity and pledged to prevent any obstacles to the country’s progress.
During their meeting, the two leaders reviewed the events of November 26 and considered the possibility of calling for civil disobedience. They also discussed the importance of consulting government allies and taking them into confidence on national issues. Nawaz congratulated PM Shehbaz on the country’s improving economic situation, and the prime minister briefed him on progress in attracting foreign investment.

The meeting also included a discussion on the prime minister’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, where he secured investments for the country. Both leaders paid tribute to martyrs who sacrificed their lives during operations against militants and concluded their meeting by offering prayers at their parents’ graves in Jati Umra.
This series of discussions reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy, improve the energy sector, and maintain national unity.
