PIC’s “Business & Economic Reporting” training workshop concluded

Islamabad(Saeed Ch)_ A Two-day training workshop on “Business & Economic Reporting” arranged by Pakistan Information Center (PIC) to enhance the capacity building of mid-career economics reporters concluded on Friday here at Information Service Academy (ISA) in Islamabad.

The Director of training workshops project at PIC Mr. Saghir Watto in his preliminary speech said that PIC is a special project of Press Information Department (PID), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the purpose of the workshop was to increase the professional capacity of the economic reporter so that they skillfully can report economic and business activities and be able to improve their knowledge about the innovative concepts and new dimensions in the economic cycle and budget preparation.
Today in the first session on the second day of the workshop on economics reporting, well-known journalist Mehtab Haider gave a detailed presentation on the preparation of the budget, and the role of Finance Division and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in preparing budget, basic features of budget, debt, deficits and mechanism of tax collection. He told the participants about the technical issues of making news by organizing the data and facts about the issues and how reporters can use open source data in reporting.


While in the second session, well-known journalist Afzal Bajwa delivered his lecture that how reporters can understanding and analysis the investment in market, direct investment, daily trading activities at stock exchange, IPOs, e-commerce and role of companies in economics reporting. He explained the participants about the importance of news and reporting procedures in the issues of commodities, energy, foreign exchange and price fluctuations due to supply and demand in the market. At the end of all sessions there was a question and answer session. PIC conferred Commemorative souvenirs to Mehtab Haider and Afazal Bajwa after their respective sessions.


The participants were awarded certificates after the completion of the workshop. A large number of economic reporters from print, electronic and digital media, women journalists and the officers of newly inducted information services cadre participated in the workshop.


It should be remembered that under the supervision of the Press Information Centre, more than 10,000 journalists of different beats were given training to enhance their professional capacity throughout the country. Pakistan Information Centers has established its sub-centers in the seven major cities of the country. Under this project PIC has arranged more than 35 training workshops at these centers so far under the auspices Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
