Women Players Shine At PFF Ramzan Football Celebration

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Football Federation celebrated AFC Women’s Football Day alongside International Women’s Day by hosting the “Women in Play: Ramzan Football Festival” at Jinnah Stadium on Sunday.

The colorful event featured a friendly five-a-side football tournament aimed at encouraging greater participation of girls and women in the sport and promoting the visibility of women’s football across the country. Officials said the federation’s commitment to women’s football extends beyond a single day, focusing on increasing year-round participation.

Five clubs — Legacy, Strikers, Smurfs, Highlanders, and Infinite — competed in the festival. Shanzeh Khan from Legacy was named best player, while Asra of Strikers finished as top scorer. The best goalkeeper award went to Aleena Bilal of Smurfs Jr.

Several current and former players attended the celebration, highlighting the growing role of women in shaping the future of football in Pakistan.

Syed Mohsen Gilani said the federation remains committed to expanding opportunities for women in football. He noted that the Pakistan women’s national football team will soon achieve a historic milestone by participating in a FIFA event during the upcoming FIFA Series in Côte d’Ivoire next month.

Meanwhile, Mejzgaan Orakzai emphasized the importance of increasing women’s involvement in football both on and off the field, pledging to create more inclusive environments that support the growth of women’s football in Pakistan.
