Masoud Pezeshkian – (Web Desk) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for a one-day state visit, days after the historic Pezeshkian visit Pakistan after Switzerland talks brought fresh hope for a US-Iran peace deal.

The visit comes just one day after Pakistan and Qatar announced a 60-day roadmap toward a final agreement between Washington and Tehran, following the first round of high-level talks held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland.

Pezeshkian personally thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s key role in mediating between Iran and the United States. The Iranian president’s office confirmed that expressing gratitude to PM Shehbaz was one of the main goals of the trip.

This is Pezeshkian’s first foreign visit since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. It is also his second visit to Pakistan as president.

During his stay, the Iranian president met President Asif Ali Zardari and held detailed talks with PM Shehbaz Sharif. He also met Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Both sides reviewed cooperation in trade, energy, border security, and regional connectivity. They also discussed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and its role in shaping the ongoing peace process.

The first round of US-Iran talks in Switzerland produced encouraging results. Both sides agreed on a roadmap for a final deal within 60 days. They also agreed on a mechanism to end fighting in Lebanon and opened a communications line to protect commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

US Vice President JD Vance called the Switzerland talks a good foundation for a lasting deal. PM Shehbaz praised the leadership of both the US and Iran for their commitment to dialogue and also thanked Qatar and Switzerland for their support.

Pakistan’s role as a peace mediator has gained strong regional and global recognition through this entire process.
