Petition Filed in Gujranwala Court Against Pakistan Cricket Team Over Defeats to India and USA

These consecutive losses have sparked widespread frustration among Pakistani cricket fans, culminating in the legal action taken by Qadir.

Gujranwala: In an unprecedented move, a citizen of Gujranwala has approached the local court to file a petition against the national cricket team following their disappointing performance in recent matches against India and the USA.

The petitioner, Manzoor Qadir, has named the team’s captain, Babar Azam, team members, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, as respondents in the petition filed in the Gujranwala court. The petition also includes the Interior Secretary, the team’s manager and coach, the chief selector, and the City Police Officer (CPO) of Gujranwala.

Qadir’s petition calls for a ban on the team, the dissolution of the selection committee, and the freezing of PCB accounts. He argues that the substantial amount of money spent on cricket each year is an injustice to the people of Pakistan. The petitioner asserts that the players are more focused on personal gains rather than the nation’s honor.

The context of the petition stems from Pakistan’s recent losses in the T20 World Cup. In their latest match, India delivered a stellar performance, defending a modest target of 120 runs and securing a second consecutive victory in the tournament. Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah was declared the player of the match for his exceptional figures, taking three wickets for just 14 runs.

Earlier, on June 7, in a shocking turn of events, Pakistan was defeated by the USA in a Group ‘A’ match of the ICC T20 World Cup. The novice American team edged out Pakistan by five runs in a thrilling super over.

These consecutive losses have sparked widespread frustration among Pakistani cricket fans, culminating in the legal action taken by Qadir. The petition underscores the public’s deep-seated disappointment and calls for accountability within the PCB and the national team.
