PCB Pushes for Swift Completion of National Bank Stadium Renovations

LAHORE-On Monday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad and met with the mentors of the five teams participating in the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup.

The tournament is set to kick off in Faisalabad on September 12, with the opening match between the Wolves and the Panthers.

During his visit, Naqvi consulted with the mentors of the participating teams—Misbah-ul-Haq of the Wolves, Shoaib Malik of the Stallions, Waqar Younis of the Lions, Sarfaraz Ahmed of the Dolphins, and Saqlain Mushtaq of the Panthers. They discussed the arrangements for the Champions Cup and highlighted the tournament’s significance for domestic cricket. The mentors also recommended improvements to the pitches and facilities at Iqbal Stadium.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi assured that the standards of pitches and grounds would be improved and stated that players would be given equal opportunities for practice. He issued instructions to Director Domestic Cricket and Director High Performance regarding the arrangements.

He further emphasised that all team players would be provided with the best gym facilities to work on fitness. The Champions Cup will bring new players to the forefront, giving them opportunities to progress based on their performance. Backup players will be prepared for the national team for all three formats. The Chairman further said that the aim is to establish the Champions Cup as a brand of Pakistan, and the mentors have a significant responsibility in this regard.

Advisor Bilal Afzal, along with PCB Directors of Domestic, High Performance, International Cricket, and PSL, as

well as the Senior General Manager of Domestic Cricket and other officials, were also in attendance.
