Parliament Raises Alarm Over Delay in Satellite Internet Licences

The notice warned that these delays could negatively impact foreign investment

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The issue of delays in granting satellite internet licences has reached Parliament, with authorities facing questions over the continued hold-up in approvals for international companies seeking to operate in Pakistan.

According to reports, Senator Sarmad Ali submitted an attention notice in the Senate, expressing concern over prolonged delays that are discouraging foreign firms from entering the local market. He pointed out that the registration of five satellite internet companies remains pending with the Pakistan Space Regulatory Board.

The notice warned that these delays could negatively impact foreign investment and slow down the rollout of advanced internet services in the country. It also highlighted that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has already completed its regulatory requirements for launching such services.

Sources said several international satellite internet providers are ready to begin operations and have assured compliance with Pakistan’s legal and security frameworks. They added that concerns regarding security risks linked to satellite internet are being overstated.

Experts stress that satellite internet is crucial for improving connectivity in remote and underserved areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited. However, the ongoing delays are hindering progress in expanding digital access across the country.
