MANILA — In a proud moment for Pakistan on the global stage, student teams from leading Pakistani institutions earned top honors at the 2025 Asia-Pacific (APAC) Solution Challenge—an international tech competition backed by Google and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Competing against over 750 teams from 12 Asia-Pacific nations, Team GeoGemma from the Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad, received the Best AI Use Award for their innovative disaster preparedness solution. Utilizing satellite imagery and the Gemini AI API, the team developed a system capable of delivering early warning alerts and risk assessments in disaster-prone areas, potentially saving lives through advanced geospatial intelligence.

The team—consisting of Ahmed Iqbal, Hanzila Bin Younas, Khalil Ur Rehman, and Abdullah Asif—was recognized for its cutting-edge application of artificial intelligence in addressing real-world challenges.

Commending their success, she stated, “You represent the bright future of Pakistan. Your innovation, determination, and global recognition are a source of pride for the entire nation.”

She further praised the contributions of faculty mentors, educational institutions, and the organizers of the competition, noting the significance of these accomplishments in showcasing Pakistan’s growing capabilities in artificial intelligence and innovation.
