Govt, World Bank Advance Long-Term CPF Development Plan

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – World Bank Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar met with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema in Islamabad to review progress on the Country Partnership Framework (CPF). The 10-year strategy, covering FY2026 to FY2035, includes a proposed funding envelope of $20 billion aimed at supporting Pakistan’s development priorities and reform agenda.

During the meeting, Ahad Cheema stressed that the federal government is working in close coordination with provincial administrations to ensure the successful rollout of CPF initiatives. Key areas of focus include tackling child stunting through improved access to clean drinking water, better sanitation, enhanced healthcare services, and proper nutrition.

Climate resilience remained a central theme of the discussion, particularly efforts to reduce the impact of floods and other environmental risks. Both sides also highlighted the importance of strengthening food security by addressing challenges within the water and agriculture sectors. Transitioning to cleaner energy sources and improving air quality were identified as critical priorities moving forward.

The minister underlined that these sectors require joint federal and provincial efforts, adding that all governments are aligned and committed to achieving CPF targets. The role of private sector investment was also emphasized, with particular focus on collaboration through the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to boost exports, stabilize the external account, and support sustainable economic growth.

Ahad Cheema appreciated the World Bank Group’s continued assistance and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining policy consistency and implementing reforms effectively. Bolormaa Amgaabazar reiterated the World Bank’s support, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration and strategic investments can help Pakistan unlock stronger growth, productivity, and inclusive development.
