Pakistan Urges US for Advanced Arms to Bolster ‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam’

Washington: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan, has appealed to Washington for sophisticated small arms and modern equipment crucial for the success of ‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam’. Addressing policymakers and leaders at the Wilson Center in Washington, Khan emphasized the need for enhanced security ties and intelligence cooperation between the two nations.

‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” aims to dismantle terrorist networks through ideological, social, and operational strategies, with initial phases already underway. Khan underscored the intertwined security and economic interests of Pakistan and the US, advocating for robust defense cooperation and the continuation of military equipment sales.

Highlighting joint military exercises and diplomatic efforts in Kabul, Khan proposed deeper collaboration on counter-terrorism and women’s rights in Afghanistan. He urged both countries to expand their partnership, setting new boundaries based on mutual interests.

Recently approved by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, ‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” marks Pakistan’s renewed commitment to counter-terrorism efforts, amidst varying political reactions domestically.
