Pakistan Urges Immediate De-Escalation Amid Rising Middle East Tensions
Pakistan has voiced serious concerns about the growing tensions in the Middle East, urging immediate steps to de-escalate the situation and pursue a peaceful resolution to ongoing conflicts.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Office (FO) criticized Israel’s recent military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, labeling them as violations of international law and the UN Charter.
Breach of International Standards
FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch condemned Israel’s aggressive military campaigns, stating that they have worsened the humanitarian crisis in the region. “The latest Israeli offensives in Gaza and Lebanon have intensified the suffering of innocent civilians,” she noted.
Baloch emphasized the urgent need for all parties involved to reduce tensions and engage in dialogue. “Israel’s actions in recent months have blatantly disregarded international norms and the UN Charter,” she added, highlighting the severe toll on civilian populations, particularly in Lebanon, where the latest strikes have caused extensive destruction.
The FO’s statement comes amid rising unrest in the Middle East. Israel has recently expanded its military operations, targeting several Muslim-majority countries, including Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. The offensive in Lebanon, featuring heavy airstrikes and a ground incursion, resulted in at least 95 fatalities and 172 injuries.
Pakistan urged the international community to act swiftly to address the worsening crisis and prevent further loss of life. Baloch called for urgent diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
Complicating the situation, Iran retaliated with a barrage of ballistic missiles following Israeli strikes. Israeli military officials confirmed that approximately 200 missiles were launched, although most were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. Despite the limited damage caused, the escalation has raised concerns among global powers.
In response, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari reassured the public that the Israel Defense Forces are ready to retaliate against Iran when deemed appropriate. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering support for Israel’s defense and the safety of American forces stationed in the region.
