Pakistan Requests UN Security Council Meeting Over Israeli Airstrike on Qatar

The airstrike, carried out by Israeli forces, targeted the Qatari capital, Doha

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, along with Algeria and Somalia, has formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in response to Israel’s recent airstrike on Qatar.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the request was made in light of Israel’s “unprovoked and illegal aggression” against Qatar. He emphasized that the aim is to raise awareness within the Security Council and to prompt a serious discussion on the matter.

“Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the government and people of Qatar,” Dar added, reaffirming Islamabad’s unwavering support for the Gulf nation.

The airstrike, carried out by Israeli forces, targeted the Qatari capital, Doha, reportedly aiming at the leadership of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. According to a statement issued by Hamas, six people were martyred in the attack, including the son of senior leader Khalil al-Hayya. However, the group confirmed that its central leadership remained unharmed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling it a blatant violation of international law and an attack on a sovereign nation.
