Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Kashmiris, Seeks Peaceful Settlement of Dispute

President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Sharif call for a just and peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute under UN Security Council resolutions

Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Pakistan reaffirms support for Kashmiris as the nation marks Kashmir Black Day on October 27. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate messages in solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Both leaders said Pakistan will keep offering moral, diplomatic and political backing to the Kashmiri people.

President Zardari urged the international community to pay attention to the human rights situation in IIOJK. He asked the United Nations and rights groups to help protect the basic rights of Kashmiris and support a lasting settlement.

He said the day is not only about remembering the past. It is also a chance to renew the pledge for a peaceful and fair solution.

The president recalled October 27, 1947, when Indian forces landed in Srinagar. He said this began a long and painful chapter for the region.

He added that restrictions on freedoms, heavy militarisation, arrests and reports of rights abuses remain serious concerns. According to him, the situation worsened after August 5, 2019, when India tried to change the legal and constitutional status of the territory.

President Zardari said lasting peace and progress in South Asia depend on resolving this issue in line with UN resolutions. He expressed hope that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will soon decide their own future.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s stance is clear, consistent and based on principle. He stressed that real peace in the region cannot come without a just solution to the dispute.

He said Kashmiris have long been denied their right to self-determination. In his view, their courage and resilience remain strong despite years of hardship.

The prime minister also voiced concern over the long detention of Kashmiri leaders, activists and rights defenders. He called for due process, respect for basic liberties and more global attention.

He said India’s steps since August 5, 2019 have changed the political, legal and demographic character of the territory. Pakistan, he added, wants these issues handled under international law.

PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the Kashmiri men, women and children who have made great sacrifices. He prayed for a future of peace, dignity and security for them.
